   Mesoscale Discussion 1054
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0400 PM CDT Tue May 28 2024

   Areas affected...portions of western Texas

   Concerning...Tornado Watch 344...

   Valid 282100Z - 282230Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 344 continues.

SUMMARY...The severe threat continues across Tornado Watch 344.
Large hail should be the main threat, though a couple of tornadoes
may still occur with one of the longer-lasting, dominant supercells.
Severe gusts would become an increasing concern if storm mergers
   occur.

DISCUSSION...Multiple multicells and supercells are progressing
across the western TX Panhandle, with several having a history of
large hail. Current thinking is that these storms will progress
eastward while percolating in intensity, with a continued threat of
large hail (perhaps exceeding 2 inches in diameter). Regional VADs
show elongated hodographs, but with modest (at best) curvature in
the lowest few km. As such, the tornado threat should be limited to
any of the more dominant, discrete supercells that can become
long-lived. Should storms merge into an MCS, severe winds would
become the main threat, and a 65+ kt gust or two cannot be ruled
   out.
